Ghana TVET Service Takes Decisive Disciplinary Action Over Unauthorized Fee Collection in Three Technical Institutes

Accra, Ghana – 27th October,2025. The Management of the Ghana TVET Service has taken decisive disciplinary action to place three principals of three technical institutes namely, Agona Swedru Technical Institute in the Central Region, Sunyani Technical Institute in the Bono Region, and Madina Technical Institute in the Greater Accra Region on a 30-day administrative leave with immediate effect. This decision follows credible reports citing unauthorized fee collection and extortion.

The allegations, which contravene the Service’s directive on maintaining a transparent and fair admission process, involve the imposition of unapproved fees across the affected institutions. These include admission charges, boarding protocol fees, payments for changing residential status from day to boarding, fashion practical item fees, bedsheet payments, and PTA-related charges.

Such practices stand in direct violation of the Government’s Free TVET Policy and undermine the Service’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to technical and vocational education across the country.

In response to these developments, Management has constituted investigative committees to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry into each of the cases. The composition of the committees will be communicated in due course, and their findings will guide Management in making final determinations and taking any further disciplinary measures deemed appropriate.

During this period, all official responsibilities and assets have been duly handed over to the respective Regional Directors of the service, who will oversee the day-to-day administration of the institutions, in addition to their regular duties.

The Ghana TVET Service reiterates its zero-tolerance policy for corruption, extortion, and all acts that compromise the integrity of the TVET system. The Service remains resolute in upholding accountability, transparency, and fairness in the management of Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions across Ghana.

Management assures parents, students, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of the admission process and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in the administration of TVET institutions nationwide.
