GHANA TVET SERVICE CONDEMNS CONDUCT OF KNUST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT HEADMASTER (ACADEMIC) AND REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO SAFE SCHOOL INITIATIVE.
Accra, Ghana – October 2, 2025. The Ghana TVET Service strongly condemns the disturbing conduct captured in a viral video allegedly involving Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, and a female student. Such behaviour is a gross violation of trust, an abuse of authority, and a direct attack on the values of dignity and safety that every school must uphold.
Educational leaders are entrusted with a sacred duty: to protect learners, model integrity, and create safe environments for growth. Any breach of this duty erodes public trust and undermines the values on which Ghana’s education system stands. The Service will not condone conduct that places learners at risk or tarnishes the noble teaching profession.
As part of its mandate to ensure safe and enabling learning environments, the Ghana TVET Service has launched the Safe School Initiative, a nationwide programme designed to safeguard students from abuse, harassment, and all forms of maltreatment. Through this initiative, the Service provides guidance, oversight, and support to schools and stakeholders, ensuring that classrooms remain sanctuaries of growth and opportunity, never spaces of fear or intimidation.
While KNUST Senior High School does not fall directly under the Ghana TVET Service, we stand in solidarity with all institutions committed to protecting learners. We call upon the relevant education authorities, law enforcement, and the judicial system to investigate this matter swiftly and take decisive action to ensure justice and deter future misconduct.
We would like to reassure learners, parents, training facilitators, and the general public that the Ghana TVET Service operates a zero-tolerance policy on abuse and misconduct within our institutions. The safety and wellbeing of learners remain our highest priority. We therefore encourage the reporting of any such incidents and misconduct, confident that they will be addressed firmly and appropriately.
Together, through the Safe School Initiative implemented across all free TVET institutions under the service as well as the collective efforts of all stakeholders, we pledge to continue to safeguard our children, preserve the integrity of our schools, and build a culture of accountability and respect through technical education. The Service firmly reminds all Principals and institutional heads that misconduct of this nature will not be tolerated under any circumstances. As champions of the Safe School Initiative, leaders are expected to safeguard students’ dignity, security, and well-being while upholding the highest standards of accountability and professionalism in public office. Any Principal or head found violating these standards will face swift and decisive disciplinary measures, including outright dismissal.
